The NSTF Mini European Assembly 25th edition comes to a close

The final session of the 25th Anniversary edition of the NSTF Mini European Assembly took place on the evening of the 9th April at the Tapestry Chamber, Grandmaster's Palace. The title of the session was '“The EU as an Active Neighbour: What Role in Countering Terrorism?” The team from University of Malta representing Luxembourg presented the report about the topic, and the Team from St Martin’s College representing Ireland put forward the resolution.

 

Dr. Michael Frendo (Former Speaker, House of Representatives and Member on the European Commission for Democracy through Law) chaired the session and Ms. Helga Mizzi (Director General Political, EU Affairs and Maltese Abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) delivered the keynote speech. The Austrian Consul to Malta Mr Erik Dreymann and Mr. Olaf Rieck, Economic & Commercial Affairs Officer in Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany were the special guests for the night and showed the young delegates their support.

The final session was followed by an Award Presentation ceremony at the Dining Hall, Grandmaster's Palace under the auspices of H.E. President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca.

 

The following were nominated Ambassadors of the NSTF Mini European Assembly 2014-2015 in order of merit:

Zoe Louise Gatt from St. Aloysius College representing Germany

Emma Marie Sammut from St. Aloysius College representing Germany

Lauren Polkey from the University of Malta representing Luxembourg

Enrico Zammit Lonardelli from St. Aloysius College representing Malta

Megan Balzan from St. Aloysius College representing Germany

Thomas Spiteri from St. Aloysius College representing Malta

Emarlys Sciberras from De la Salle College representing Austria

 

The Ministry for Education and Employment’s Prize for Best Effort was awarded to Gianluca Naudi from De la Salle College representing Poland.

H.E. presenting the President’s Prize for the Best Debating Ability to Rachel Mercieca from St. Aloysius College representing France.

 

The most awaited top placing teams were also announced on the night, namely:

 

1st - The team from the University of Malta representing Croatia composed of Kayrin Gauci, Sophie Pace, Nadine Farrugia, Naomi Bugre and Emma Grech

2nd - The team from St. Aloysius College representing France composed of Jasmine Bugre, Lizzy Farrugia, Tiffany Camilleri, Edward Thake and Rachel Mercieca

3rd - The team from St. Aloysius College representing Czech Republic composed of Liam Caruana Montaldo, Petra Licari, Jack Delicata, Nina Fauser and Giulia Raciti

 

Finally H.E. the President addressed the distinguished guests, young delegates and their families. She mentioned that for her all the participants are winners since participating in such a programme is what is important. She mentioned how in December she saw an older audience of participants, not the same ones, since they had participated in NSTF MEA over the past 25 years. She was happy to hear at the December event how helpful participation in NSTF MEA had been to the Alumni and how it left an impact on them, leading them to be able to achieve even more results. She concluded by saying “Kemm jien kburija bikom” (I’m so proud of you).
